THE TREATMENT

WHAT IS A DENTAL EMERGENCY?

Some dental problems require urgent attention to prevent further damage or relieve significant pain. If you're unsure whether your situation is an emergency, it's always best to get in touch with our team for advice.

Common dental emergencies include:

  • Severe or persistent toothache
  • A broken, chipped or cracked tooth
  • A knocked-out tooth
  • Swelling of the gums or face
  • Lost fillings, crowns or bridges
  • Dental abscesses or signs of infection
  • Bleeding following dental trauma

If you experience any of these symptoms, contact Five Dental as soon as possible so we can advise you on the next steps.

YOUR APPOINTMENT

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT

When you arrive, one of our experienced dentists will carry out a thorough examination to identify the cause of your problem. If required, we may take digital X-rays to help diagnose the issue and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

Our aim is to relieve your discomfort as quickly as possible while providing a clear explanation of your treatment options and any follow-up care that may be needed.

PREVENTION

LOOKING AFTER YOUR ORAL HEALTH

While not every dental emergency can be prevented, regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene can help reduce the risk of unexpected problems.

If you've recently experienced a dental emergency, we'll also provide advice on how to care for your teeth and gums to help prevent similar issues in the future.

DENTAL EMERGENCY QUESTIONS

A dental emergency includes severe or persistent toothache, a broken or knocked-out tooth, facial or gum swelling, lost fillings or crowns, and signs of infection such as an abscess. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll advise on the best next step.

We aim to see emergency patients as quickly as possible, usually the same day. Contact us as soon as symptoms start so we can arrange the right appointment for you.

Try to hold the tooth by the crown (not the root), avoid touching the root, and if possible, gently rinse it and place it back in the socket or store it in milk. Contact Five Dental immediately, as quick action gives the best chance of saving the tooth.

Contact Five Dental as soon as possible to arrange an emergency appointment. In the meantime, over-the-counter pain relief and avoiding very hot, cold or hard foods can help manage discomfort.

Yes, a lost filling or crown should be treated as an emergency, as it can leave the tooth vulnerable to further damage or sensitivity. Contact us promptly so we can assess and restore it.

Costs depend on the treatment needed to resolve your emergency. Contact our team and we'll be happy to talk you through pricing once we understand your situation.
